Comment: Hi, just a quick note to say well done to all those who have helped the hospital over the years. I am like Lance, I am one of the original crew of 270 that travelled out back in Easter 1994. Thanks to Mr Branson for our plane ! I remember the blizzard that welcomed us at the airport. It was a long hard slog that week but we did it. Anyone wish to contact me, carry on. Good luck in the future.

Comment: To Mum

I will miss you so
But don't you know
I wish you lots of fun
I will do my very best
When I take my dancing test
The days will go by
But I will not cry
So have a good time
For I will be fine

Olivia, aged 7

This poem was given to me the evening before my second trip to Russia with the charity. It is so rewarding to know that our own children and families support us in the good we do for children less fortunate than our own.

The next words were in a card for me on my return, knowing my children see the good in what we do makes it easier for me to leave them here and go and help others.

To Mum

Glad you're coming back, I hope you had a great time even though you were working your socks off and sweating all day long. I'm happy you're goung to Russia and helping people over there even though I miss you.

Loads of love

Comment: Hey just wanted to say sorry I didnt make it this year but just got back from a GREAT trip to California where the director/asst director from Detsky Dom #1 were able to come fro 3 weeks with 9 or 10 of the kids on a summer hosting program. I am happy to say that most if not all of the kids have families that are VERY interested in them and if all goes well with Russian red tape, they will get new families. My daughter who is from # 1 and has left 5 siblings behind (with 2 more being born since her departure) was absolutley extatic to be reunited with DD #1's Director / Asst Director and the other kids. These 2 people genuinely care about the kids, are honest hard working ldies, and I would personally appreciate it if you ever get a chance to help #1 out in any way. Also if you hve any pictures from your trip to either Detsky Dom I would appreciate emailed copies - my daughter and several of her friends who have been adopted back to the states would be forever grateful to see their friends again even if it is only a picture.....

Thanks to everyone that makes the trip possible behind the scenes...Ken and the committee.
Huge round of applause to all the volunteers, Russian and English, for putting the time in. I'm sure the kids loved the work we'd done when they saw it.
I thoroughly enjoyed myself but can't think about Macdonalds or Cheesy chips without laughing.
Take care 'til next time.

We adopted our little 4 year old girl Masha from Kingisepp #1 back last Christmas and she left behind 5 siblings - Sasha, Ivan, Eugene, Katia, Nastya - all at Kingisepp #2. She misses them very much. Im wondering how i can maybe get some pictures and a letter to them? If anyone has more recent pictures of the orphanage & kids, would you please send them. Comment: Russia 2003

It’s my first time and I’m nervous
Wondering what to expect
I don’t know any of these people
Or what will happen next

We meet up at the airport
And everyone’s looking around,
Gazing out of the window
Not making much of a sound

On the plane I spend my time thinking
About how the trip will be
But for all the thinking that I have done
There’s no preparation for what I see

The bus squeezed down a lonely road
With no space either side
And stopped outside a building
So shabby I could have cried

The outside was no illusion
For the inside was as bad
These children they had no-one
This place was all they had

No toys, no love, no laughter
And no-one to kiss them goodnight
The life they live is not happy
And we would help put that right.

We take our lives for granted
And just expect to watch TV
But these little kiddies have nothing
In comparison to you and me.

They have no working toilets
And could barely keep themselves clean
But we as people changed that
Together we worked as a team.

The end result was awesome
New showers, new toilets, new toys
With new mirrors for the girlies
And footballs for the boys.

Outside was too amazing
the lads they worked so hard
They created an outdoor adventure
Out of a grassy back yard

The end of the working week came along
And all of the work was done
It was time to rest tired bodies
An indulge in a little fun!

We moved into the city
To finish off the trip
To reminisce on all the hard work
And finally get some kip

Soon though came the last day
And with this came the goodbyes
I found this so emotional
To say goodbye to the guys

Everyone had become a family
All adopting individual roles
Then it comes to a sudden end
And we’re all little lost souls

I can’t though wait till next year
To do it all again
These children really need us
And I think that we need them...

Comment: I have been in contact with Russian children via a school site. It was good to find something on the webb which we can find information and see the work done by people in the uk for children in Russia. When I am older it would be good to join your group. I will try and involve some of my friends who might like to raise some funds. I hope to continue to look at your webb site for information for my school.
